White Trash Test (post your results in the comments)

I am 5% White Trash.
Not at all White Trashy!

I, my friend, have class. I am so not white trash. . I am more than likely Democrat, and my place is neat, and there is a good chance I may never drink wine from a box.

New York, New York

Ah. Saturday morning, and by 10:24AM I’ve already been productive. My parents are up for the weekend. They came in on Thursday night, and Friday morning we got up and went skiing at Big Sky. The conditions were great, and it was a warm, full and fun day of skiing. Even my pink eye didn’t stop me from enjoying myself.

Oh yeah, did I mention? I woke up Friday morning with a bad case of pink eye (probably contracted from my trip to the elementary school the day before to mentor my brats– we’ll see if I ever do that again =P ). I ignored it for most of the day, but had it checked out when I got back to town. The kind doctor gave me a perscription for some anti-bacterial eye-drops, and I’m gradually getting better. Whoo!

In the mean time, I’m giving my mom the official tour while my dad is off running 12 miles. I’d better get going.

Third Surfer

Despite being sick, my life is made pleasant by my three current simple pleasures:

1. My yo-yo.
2. Piano.
3. The Fellowship of the Ring
–I can’t believe that I haven’t read the series before, but at the same time it’s better this way: the timing wouldn’t have been appropriate before.
3.5. (Because I said three above, I guess I really can’t have four) Braddigan
–Give a listen

The Fellowship of the Ring

For as wonderful as yesterday was, it seems only appropriate that today should be a little downer. I’m feeling a bit less than dapper (a few too many days with a few too few hours of sleep coupled with a confused immune system will have this effect, I suppose), and can think of nothing I’d like more than to go back to my quad and take a nap. As a matter of fact, that’s exactly what I’m going to do when I’m off form work here in 45 minutes.

I managed to squander upwards of two hours this morning fixing a few miscellaneous things on the blog– mostly appearance issues related to the rounded corners. There’s still the problem in Firefox that, when you extend a hidden portion of the page, the sides don’t extend down to compensate. I need to find some way to force Firefox to redraw the page, but I would rather avoid using JavaScript to mess with window sizes and the like. We’ll see what gives.

And that’s about it. I’m starting in to The Fellowship of the Ring, and I hope to read it in some semblance of a timely manner. The hope is that, after reading the trilogy, I’ll be able to participate in conversations about the trilogy without the disparaging “you haven’t read the books? Oh, you must be stupid and have no idea what you’re talking about” bit to accompany.

Well. Ta ta.

The Günther Obsession Continues

http://www.eateggs.com/gunther/

Here’s quite a discovery: Günther actually hit the top of the Sweedish pop-charts in February of last year.

In other news, while talking to Sagar, I just realized something: I use my coffee pot more often than I use my laptop.

Go figure.

One last random tidbit, Eateggs.com is, well… complete. Not that work on it is going to stop, but for the first time EVER there are no dead links. Squeak, pay attention. Everything works. Really. Click on it. Version three-point-oh! Whoo!

I’m not going to lie.

I hate to be immodest. Or maybe I just think I should be modest, and so I pretend that I want to be modest, and somehow manage to occasionally fool myself into modesty. Whatever the case may be, I’m going to take a momentary break from my traditional modesty and talk about how great I am.

Heh. Just kidding. Well, mostly.

Today has been just wonderful. I got up on time this morning, did some homework, met with my T&C fellow (who’s just about the coolest guy ever– he’s a hard-core hippie stats prof who used to sell grass on Okinawa (the same island that my parents were stationed on, a year or two after he left) while in the military in the early 70’s. The long and short of it is that he spoke very well of my last project (I wrote a screenplay where Faustus (from Goethe’s Faust), Odysseus and Billy Pilgrim (from Vonnegut’s Slaugherhouse-Five) meet and, well, talk about war) and proposed that we have the class perform it on our next free day. The idea scares me– I’m not sure why. Probably because I think it sucks and I know that there’re several other individuals in my class that have far more screenwriting ability than I do, and I’d rather forgo their judgment. Regardless, that made me happy.

From there I went to my Hist 319 class and received my test back from last week. Despite only getting a 30% on the map portion of the test (I lost my map to study from), I (the only freshman in the class) managed to pull off an A on the test. Rock on.

After history, I went to lunch, where they were serving New York style hotdogs, complete with sauerkraut, onions, etc. My hotdog was amazing. I don’t exaggerate to say that it’s the best thing I’ve ever eaten at FoodService (which really isn’t saying much, but…).

Now I’m at work, where I get to hang out for the next few hours and read Kafka’s Metamorphosis that I’ll be facilitating tonight in my T&C class.

Outside, the sun is shining and it’s warm. The mountains, from my view in the third floor of Reid hall, loom off in the distance: precipitous and blue. I even happened to hear a bird singing as I walked to work.

Ah, what happy days these are!

EUROTRASH DANCE PAARTY!

The Eurotrash Dance Party was a resounding success. I think we had upwards of a hundred people come through our humble quad last night, and, well, the tunes were thumpin’ and the dance floor was jumpin’ and… blather, that rhymes! Not intentional. We really did have the floor bouncing a little last night– I’m not sure which song it was, but we had about everyone in here jumping at the same time, and, well, the Quad wasn’t designed to hold up to that sort of abuse.

Anyhow I’ll post pictures here in a bit. Although I’m Sweedish (well, mostly Norweigen, but that’s beside the point) I’ve never felt so thoroughly European. And believe me, it’s a good feeling.

Once the party wound down (we had to stop at ~ midnight to keep the people on campus happy) we managed to pile about a dozen people into Devastating Dave’s (Keto) VW bus, in which we drove down to the PitaPit for some late night pita. That was a smashing good time (I didn’t get hit on by any creepy drunk chicks ten years older than me– whoo!) and came back and started to watch Snatch. I survived for the first twenty-five minutes, and then passed out on the floor.

Oh yeah. It was a “Euro-trashed” party for some of us, which increased the fun factor by about five. I came accross a great poster yesterday. It read: “Beer: Helping White Guys Dance Since 1842.” It’s the truth, too!

Well, today we get to clean up, and then it’s Academy Awards time! Hells yeah! I’ll post my predictions later (maybe when I post the pictures?). In the mean time… I’m going to go take a shower. Rock on!

My syphilis has gonorrhea. Go figure.

So. I’m going to freakin’ fail my MTA218 class this semester, which is rather sad since it’s about my favorite class. Why, you ask? Because I can’t manage to haul myself out of bed before 9:00AM in the morning. I thought I was doing well today– my alarm was set for eight, and it seems to me that I hit the snooze button a time or two, and then got up. Much to my chagrin, I discovered that it was nine thirty when I got out of bed rather than the eight thirty I was expecting. Tsk. Oh well.

So I have a test in my Asian History class this afternoon. What’s worse, is that, for the last 10 minutes, I’ve actually been kinda studying for it. I assume that I’m just feeling bad about missing my MTA class (and a quiz in it) this morning, or maybe it’s just that I’m at work, and I’ve done everything else there is to do– checked blogs, checked my forums, checked movie reviews, checked my email, etc.

Speaking of tests, I have a killer test tomorrow morning in my History of Rome class. I’m going to die. At least, after I die, it’ll be the weekend.

In other news, it looks like I may end up searching for another form of legitmate employment, in addition to my lab-monitor position. I hate to do this, but unless I make some changes, I’m going to end up owing my soul to BankOne, which I’m not especially pleased about. Perhaps I could get a job at one of the movie theatres in town– I’d have to wear a uniform, which just might be the bane of my existence, but I could work evenings and weekends, when I have free time. Ug.
