Oh my goodness. I just ate so much White Castle (pics to come!!). It wouldn’t be so bad, except I just kekkled (genmayism. See: laughed) off half the calories watching Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. I really don’t think I’ve laughed so much at a movie… for quite some time. It was an awesome conclusion to a great day.

And… that’s about it. It really seemed like I had so much more to say. I just had to get it out, I guess. Ke ke ke!

Edit: Oh! Before I forget: we watched Cool Hand Luke this afternoon, which I found to be well deserving of its “classic” status. Paul Newman is great!

Edit 2: AAH! Darn you Ken! My life sucks now! I can already see it: I’m going to wake up in two weeks time and be craving White Castle, and I’m going to be forced FOURTEEN hours for the drive to Minneapolis to satiate my craving. That’s such a long time!

Day…? March 16th, 2005: 9:54AM

So here I am, sitting in the lobby of our Econo Lodge. Why? Well, refer to the previous post about internet addiction. Quite simply, the signal is better out here than in our room. Ug.

So I was a wee bit concerned this morning when I pulled plug-thing to route the water to the showerhead and it sounded like a jet-engine winding up (you know: the weeEEEEE whine) followed by a small boom (AAAAAAAH! my wi-fi just dropped. So much for a better signal!) when the water came shooting out at, oh, say, 100mph, from the showerhead. Fortunately, the shower was much more comfortable than I expected, despite inauspicious beginnings. Yeah.

So we’re in Madison right now. Bonus points for those who know, off the top of their head, can fill in the blank: Madison is the capitol of this state: _______________.

I hate how Windows XP w/ SP2 handles wireless networks. It’s even more retarded than the Windows XP w/ SP1 handling of wireless networks. The bane of my existence. Sheesh.

I watched the better portion of Bush’s presidential address this morning while eating breakfast. I’m concerned. ALL his answers were so thoroughly ambiguous and evasive… I have a sneaking suspicion that when I come back to the States next spring, some things are going to be very different, although probably not for the better. When asked about the rising prices of gasoline, all Bush could respond was that congress has not yet produced a bill that would significantly increase the use of alternative sources of energy. Right-o.

And that’s about it. Ken and I are having a jolly good time, as it were, and I’m contemplating about dragging us to the Spam Museum today on our way back to the cities. Tonight we’re headed to dinner at P.F. Chang’s (yes, I know you’re jealous) and then to some sort of Celtic concert. Sweet!

Right-o.

Well, Chicago was nice. There you go. Off to bed now! Whoo-hoo!

Internet Crisis

I’m addicted. I’m helpless without it. I can’t function in society if I don’t get my fix or at leave have access. This isn’t healthy.

I managed to post yesterday… but only after stopping in some random city because I saw a “free wireless internet” sign on a hotel, and managing to get on to their network. Now I’m driving around Ken’s neighborhood, hunting for Wi-Fi. Obviously I’ve found some– lord knows that I’ll probably be out here later on tonight, with my coat on and such, sitting in some random person’s front lawn, because that’s the only place I can seem to pick up the ‘net. Tsk.

Anyhow. Things are good thus far– we just putzed around the city today (saw the sculpture garden, Ken’s high school, etc). An example of my desperate need for internet came around this afternoon. There was a shop I found in the Yellow Pages that I wanted to find. I didn’t have maps.google.com available, but I had purchased a city street map. No problem, right? Yeah. Whatever. Needless to say, we never found the shop. =)

Tonight we’re going to go get White Castle… and watch Herold and Kumar go to White Castle. Unfortunately, as it were, we’re not going to be stoned, but since neither of us happen to be pot users, we’re just going to need to settle with driving to White Castle and enjoying White Castle while sober. At least I’ll be driving a Corolla. =)

Tomorrow we take off for Chicago. Speaking of which, I should probably find a hotel and such while I have wi-fi. Ah, the hell with it. I’ll come back out later. =)

Spring Break!

Day 1: March 13, 2005 8:27AM

Some things change, and some things remain the same. Among the things that remain the same is my cavalier “the hell with directions, we’ll find it well enough” mindset. Unfortunately, another of those things that seems to never change is my inability to “find it well enough” without directions. Hmm. Welcome to day two of our adventure!

So, instead of waking up in a cold tent in Badlands National Park, I woke up in a warm hotel in Murdo (yeah–we know where Murdo is, too… or not), South Dakota, took a nice warm shower, dressed, plugged in the laptop and started typing this. In a little while Ken and I will go downstairs and enjoy the complimentary continental breakfast. I guess things work out for the best sometimes. =)

Wanting to avoid an experience like I had on my last road trip, I chose a “Days Inn,” and I’m pleased to say that, not only was I able to sleep in the bed without fear of lice, it’s not 8:35AM and as of yet no creepy men in trench coats have stopped by looking for their dealer. … Very nice!

Anyhow. After getting some grub, we’ll drive across the street and try to pirate some Wireless Internet, and then press on towards Minneapolis; we’re about six hours out. Here’s a brief rundown of the itinerary:

Sunday: Arrive in Minneapolis. Dinner with Ken’s dad (he’s making spaghetti–whoo! Home cooking!).
Monday: Possible lunch with Drew Collins (see: worship leader from Cheyenne–ar! I wish I had the stupid search function working) and then, since we’re in Minnesota, we’re going to go get some White Castle (sp?) and watch Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.
Tuesday: Get up and drive to Chicago. Walk memory lane, see the waterfront, etc. Stay in Chicago that night.
Wednesday: Return to Minneapolis. Dinner with Ken’s mom at P.F. Chang’s!
Thursday (St. Patrick’s Day): Drive north to Duluth. Enjoy some of the St. Patty’s day festivities. Return to the cities that night.
Friday: Get up and drive like mad men back to Montana.
Saturday: Hang out with William in Miles City.
Sunday: Return home.

There you have it. At least that’s the plan, so far: god only knows what’ll actually happen. In the meantime, Ken’s out of the shower which means its time for breakfast! Happy Spring Break!

I suck at life. =P

Ug. I’m pretty sure that I have strep throat as well. Severe and sudden sore throat without coughing, sneezing, or other coldlike symptoms? Pain or difficulty with swallowing? Yup, that’s pretty much me. I guess I’ll go in and get tested tomorrow. In the mean time… hell, I’m going to bed. I’m way not ready for that test tomorrow, but I guess I’ll just hope I’ll be ready in time. AAAAAAAAAA

In other news, I found a backup copy of my blog some place. Until I can figure out what the heck I’m doing, I’ll just use this version. Whoo.

Oh, and in the vein of making me feel better, I didn’t do so hot on my Film History test today. Ug.

Oh well. I’m still smiling. And I really need to get in bed! Tomorrow comes early!

I really do suck at HTML

So if I were smart, I’d do the smart thing and work with a “test” version of my site rather than working with the live production version, especially since my site does somehow manage to attract a small amount of traffic.

But, of course, I’m not smart.

So at about the time I got off of work on Tuesday eateggs.com didn’t even load. I stayed until I couldn’t possibly stay any later, and by that point I had things kinda working as well as you see them now. And until Friday evening, I’m going to be super busy, and things are just going to sit.

I say all of this as a means of saying 1) I’m sorry and 2) you can’t post comments and 3) I’m going to fix it but 4) I’m super busy right now so you’ll just have to wait. =P

I can’t SEE! Ever since this damned pink eye hit I haven’t been able to focus on anything. It’s getting better, but as it gets later in the night I can’t focus on text on my screen or in my book… it becomes blurry. I found myself shielding my eyes, trying to read my film book… what the hell? Shielding my eyes? In a poorly lit dining room?

I know it’ll get better in a few days, but in the mean time it’s scary as hell. I’ve always had perfect vision, and this is a bit of empathy I’d rather do without.

I’ve been staring at people and things, not being able to recognize them. Things that should otherwise be very clear are beyond my power to identify. I just see blurs.
I know. Poor baby. Poor Mark. Whatever. You try to study for an exam while being unable to read your study materials…

I hate HTML

So I have this random problem where, with Firefox, the pretty blue bar on the right hand side doesn’t extend down when one expands a content box (i.e. a “post comment” section). The solution to this is to force the page to re-render, but I have yet to figure out how to force the browser to re-render the page in a non-obtrusive fashion. Resizing the window works, but, obviously, that’s rather obtrusive. Refreshing the page… well, that refreshes the page.

It works just fine in Internet Explorer, although there are other portions of my page that don’t render correctly in IE. And besides, who uses IE, anyway?

So anyhow. I’m writing this hoping that either 1) some blinding inspiration will come as I type these last few words or 2) some blidning genius will post a solution to my rendering woes in the comments section.

Well, a guy can hope, can’t he? =P

Edit: In other news, Carter should get off his butt and make Sagar’s blog work. I would like to point out that, although my blog has some rendering issues, it’s still substanially more functional than Sagar’s. =P

Some people’s kids…

So, as I sit at my computer lab monitor perch, I am given the amusement of seeing two blond girls, working on a paper. The one of the left has an empty bottle of Diet Snapple Iced Tea.

Diet. Snapple. Iced Tea. Has Snapple really sunk that low? I’m a little confused– Iced Tea, by my understanding, has about the same nutritional content as water. Now how does one go about making that diet? The answer, it seems, is simple enough: print “diet” on the label, and without fail, obnoxiously skinny blond girls with entirely too much make-up will buy it and drink it.

Hmm. Troublesome.

In other news, this week is going to be the terrible and not-so-bloody end of me. I have two tests on the later part of the week, and I’m already quite behind. The terrible thing about having a cold is that if one’s motivation to get up, go to class, do one’s homework and so on is marginal to begin with, well, things just don’t happen. Hopefully I’m on the upswing. At the very least, the sclera of my left eye is almost completely white again, and I suspect that my right eye will be soon to follow. Whoo.

The weekend was nice– it was good to see my parents, and we got to eat some super good food. Along those lines, the more I see of Bozeman, the more I love it– the whole “Bozeman” mentality of things. Perhaps I’ll elaborate later.

Anyhow. Tonight I get to see Salman Rushdie speak (!!!) and hopefully I’ll do a bit of homework. I suppose I should pry myself away from this wretched computer and actually go do my job for a change.

I am a god of music

I decided a few days back that I should share my music on the network via iTunes. I finally got around to getting things set up. About 10 minutes ago I started the process of importing my music into iTunes. It’s been cranking ever since, and I get the impression that it’s going to take a while yet to put all of my 145gb music collection on the network for download with ourTunes and myTunes Redux.

Sharin’ the love. Whoo!
